The Connecticut home where Trump lived with his ex-wife Ivana is for sale for $31.5 million

Donald Trump’s former estate in Greenwich, Conn., has finally found a buyer after bouncing on and off the market for more than a decade.

The sprawling waterfront property, which once cost $54 million, sold for $31.5 million, according to the Wall Street Journal. Greenwich’s luxury housing market has been struggling with low inventory and high-end properties in short supply. According to Redfin, the median sales price for homes in the area rose 13.9% year over year to $2.3 million in August, making this latest sale the most expensive in Greenwich this year.

The mansion, a Georgian-style home overlooking Long Island Sound, was owned by Trump and his now-deceased ex-wife, Ivana Trump, during the 1980s. After their divorce in 1990, Ivana kept the property, raising their children there until he sold it to financier Robert Steinberg and his wife, Suzanne, in 1998 for $15 million.

The Steinbergs embarked on a two-year renovation project, removing some of the Trump home’s more opulent decorations.

Robert Steinberg confirmed the sale to the Journal, but remained tight-lipped about the buyer’s identity.

Joseph Barbieri, of Sotheby’s International Realty, who represented the buyer, also could not comment on the new owners. However, he told The Post that the house was sold to a well-known family.

Barbieri added that the same house manager during the Steinbergs’ ownership was also the house manager during the Trump family’s.

“The house manager stayed with the current owners for the last 25 years. He had the nicest things to say about the family,” Barbieri said. “He’s telling me stories about how Donald would get up at 4 a.m., read the paper and drink his coffee and be ready to go at 5:30 a.m. over and over again. He doesn’t sleep,” Barbieri said with a laugh. .

The home, despite being delisted last summer, continued to attract interest from potential buyers. Barbieri noted that the property’s large, flat land made it an attractive investment.

Barbieri told the Journal that some people were still interested in the home despite it being off the market. He added that while the new owners have no immediate plans, the lot’s layout would be ideal for future development.

As for the mansion itself, built around 1940 and spanning 20,000 square feet, Barbieri said it’s unclear whether it will be torn down.

“They just closed a week ago and builders and architects looked at the property,” he said. “They will decide in the coming months what will happen to it and whether they will build a new property. The land itself is worth what they paid for.”

The estate boasts eight bedrooms, staff quarters, a cinema, an indoor swimming pool – and outdoor amenities such as a swimming pool, tennis court and putting green. It’s all set on 6 acres of prime coastal land.

Ivana recalled the property in her 2017 memoir, “Raising Trump,” recalling that she and Trump chose the property after scouting the area by helicopter.

“The boys spent more time in or around the water… than in the house itself,” she wrote, praising the house’s unique water view. She also shared how she would commute from Manhattan to Greenwich every weekend with children, nannies and pets in tow.

“Driving a limo isn’t that hard,” Ivana said. “It’s just longer, so you have to make wider turns on Park Avenue.”

Rob Johnson of Brown Harris Stevens represented the Steinbergs in the sale, but declined to comment on the deal.
