The Mombies took on Manhattan on Saturday.
The scruffy group of 52 moms and grandmothers from the leafy suburb of Fairfield, Conn., showed off their gory dance moves at the South Street Seaport.
“You just don’t know what to expect in New York,” founder Terry Davis told The Post of their first Gotham performance.
“It’s full of people with a great sense of humor and we hope they laugh and give us hugs.”
Davis, a mother of two sons, said the Big Apple holds a special place in Mombies’ hearts.
“Many of us moms consider New York City a home away from home. It’s a place where some of us went to college or lived after school or in my case, worked there for many years, so it’s super exciting for us to bring this project to the big stage of New York City.” , she said.
Every Halloween, the matriarchs transform into bloody, pale zombies, complete with torn clothing and tousled hair – and perform choreographed dances in the streets of their neighborhood in a terrifying flash mob.
The women, who range in age from 30 to 70, have been practicing this year’s routines every week since early September – with the help of choreographer Paul Herman.
“We’re not dancers, we’re just moms,” Davis said.
“We have a cross-section of so many professions—doctor, teacher, accountant, lawyer, psychologist, librarian, nurse, professor, hair stylist, realtor, graduate student, architect, work-from-home mom and homemaker.”
The Mombies launched in 2016 and the following year, a video of them dancing to songs like Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This” went viral – with 12 million views on Facebook .
They dance for a worthy cause – to raise money for the Cancer Couch Foundation, which funds the metastatic breast cancer research team at Sloan Kettering.
There are currently seven breast cancer survivors and breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at Mombies – and to date, they have raised $500,000.
On Saturday, after finishing at the Seaport, they headed to Grand Central to take the Metro North to Fairfield — the first time they’ve all been on public transportation together in costume.
“Can you imagine getting on a train and seeing 50 zombies?” Davis laughed.
“Commuting into the city is hard enough on a regular day.”
