Couple ‘humiliated’ after only 16 of their 80 guests asked for wedding with ‘rabid’ theme: ‘Reassessing Friendships’

If only this themed wedding could be reworked.

An engaged couple are feeling “humiliated” after the vast majority of their guests refused to attend their upcoming wedding ceremony – a romp in the woods.

On Reddit, the unidentified bride shared how she and her husband-to-be booked a “huge cabin” in a remote area and that they were getting married in a “glitz/fury themed party.”

“We made it clear with the invitation that accommodations would be free and included for two nights, and that we would provide all meals and alcohol,” she wrote, according to People.

Over 80 invitations were sent to their guests, many who “live in the city”, more than six months ago.

However, more and more people began to withdraw as the day approached.

“We had a few people who sent us messages and saved us. So now we’re down to about 16 people (mostly couples) who will be there,” she wrote. “And there’s still two weeks before the event, so I’m sure that number will drop even more.”

Meanwhile, the “heartbroken” bride has had her sights set on the day for over a year and has been brainstorming with the group to pick outfit theme ideas.

In her words: “It would be such a great party.”

Meanwhile, her husband also “feels humiliated and is reevaluating his friendships”.

Redditors weighed in with their opinions, with some sharing where they think things went wrong.

“I feel like it’s probably a combination of the non-traditionalness of it all and the fact that, for some people, it probably reads like a whole weekend away instead of an evening at a party,” wrote one. “I feel that this kind of commitment, even if it’s not expected by everyone, can alienate people and make them hesitate.

Meanwhile, someone else pointed out the logistics of the situation and how it may have played into people’s choices.

“You invited 80 people to a cabin, but with only 15 bedrooms? None of these I find remotely attractive. I bet people looked for accommodations and didn’t go out for the same reasons.”

Another offered advice on looking on the bright side of things.

“You’re allowed to feel disappointed, but you absolutely have to try and focus on the people coming. With 15 rooms, there is more space for people to spread out and be comfortable.”
